Introduced in 1925 by Guerlain, Shalimar was inspired
by the love story of the Emperor of India that built the Taj-Mahal and
also the gardens of Shalimar, a Sanskrit word meaning 'abode of love'.
It is the fragrance of eternal romance and was designed
for the woman who is sensual, sophisticated, and uninhibited. This intoxicating
oriental has notes of bergamot, lemon, hesperides, jasmine, iris, rose,
patchouli, vetiver, vanilla, incense, opopanax, sandalwood, musk, civet,
ambergris, and leather.
The bottle, designed by Raymond Guerlain, is a reminder
of the fountains in the gardens of Shalimar with the sapphire stopper evokes
the flow of the water from the fountain.
